What Is Myopia?
Myopia—commonly called nearsightedness—causes distant objects to appear blurry while closer objects may remain clear. It commonly develops during the school-age years as the eye grows.
For many children, myopia does not remain at the same level. Their prescription may become progressively stronger as they grow.
That's why modern myopia management focuses on more than helping a child see clearly today. The goal is also to slow how quickly their nearsightedness progresses.

Stellest lenses look and function as prescription eyeglasses while incorporating specialized optical technology designed to slow the progression of childhood myopia.
In September 2025, the FDA authorized Stellest for the correction of myopia—with or without astigmatism—and for slowing myopia progression in qualifying children.

How Do Stellest Lenses Work?
Stellest lenses use Essilor's H.A.L.T. — Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target — technology.
The center of the lens provides the prescription correction your child needs for clear vision. Surrounding that central area are specially designed lenslets that alter peripheral light in a way intended to help slow the eye growth associated with progressing myopia.
The result is a prescription spectacle lens designed to accomplish two things at the same time:

Important: H.A.L.T. is the name of the optical technology; it does not mean the lenses completely “halt” or stop myopia.
Is My Child a Candidate for Stellest?
Stellest may be appropriate for children who have been diagnosed with myopia and whose prescription is progressing.
The current FDA-authorized indication is for children who, when beginning treatment:

Are 6–12 years old

Have otherwise non-diseased eyes

Have myopia between -0.75 D and -4.50 D spherical equivalent

May have astigmatism up to 1.50 D
